"The Budapest Philharmonic Society's December concert once again welcomes the Christmas season. Our evening is built on the contrasts of winter – shadow and light, passing and the promise of renewal – combining Baroque and contemporary chamber music, romantic and modern sounds.
In the first half of the program, the Wind+ ensemble will demonstrate the many faces of wind chamber music. In addition to János Vajda's new Septet, which will be premiered in Budapest, the fairy-tale world of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and works by Piazzolla, Berlin and Hendricks will unfold a kaleidoscope that moves freely between classical music and lighter styles.
In the second part of the concert, Trio Flauticello's program brings baroque elegance and intimate sounds: music by Handel, Bach and Vivaldi, as well as Christmas melodies, create the festive atmosphere of candlelit evenings.
Once again, the music is accompanied by poetry – actress Angela Császár's selection and recitation of poems helps to deepen the Advent anticipation, while music historian Endre Tóth introduces the audience to the world of the works with short background stories."
