Contemporary-game - An informal evening in the company of celebrated authors
16 November 2025, 07:00 pm.
Óbudai Társaskör
1036 Budapest, Kiskorona utca 7.
"Six generations, six styles, six temperaments. Six contemporary composers are celebrating milestone birthdays this year – we salute them with this concert, which features a wide range of enjoyable, lovable music, from traditional forms to experimental playfulness, performed in the company of the honorees. You will hear ten choral works, and with the help of the six composers, we will also create a joint work based on the lines of László Nagy, who was born a hundred years ago.
On this evening, we will not only get to know the works and their composers, but we will also get closer to the diverse and exciting process of composition and contemporary thinking. Máté Bella is one of the most acclaimed young composers, composing in a wide spectrum from light music to avant-garde compositions. Barnabás Horváth's more obscure world also features countless singable, sophisticated pieces. Levente Gyöngyösi's rich inventiveness has earned him great success worldwide, not only with his operas and large-scale orchestral works, but also with his extremely popular choral works. Péter Tóth is also a sought-after and popular choral composer, but he also composes for a wide variety of instruments. Despite being 85 years old, László Sáry remains playful, often using improvisational techniques in his colorful, exciting style, which is also evident in his small but interesting choir. Tibor Szemző rarely uses choirs in his experimental works, which are often combined with film and text and frequently rely on improvisation, offering the audience a truly unique experience. On this evening, he will assist us with a similar compositional game.
I highly recommend this informal evening to everyone. Be open and curious, and we guarantee you won't regret it!"
