Pulzus Vonósnégyes (Pulse String Quartet)

Orchestra, choir, ensemble

Formed
1999

The Pulse String Quartet was founded in Lisbon in 1999 by István Rajncsák and Mahdi Kousay. They gave their first concerts in Portugal, then returned to Hungary. From 2002 to 2018, the first violinist was János Pilz, who spent more than 20 years as a founding member of the Keller Quartet, while the second violin was played by Eszter Lesták Bedő, concertmaster of the Erkel Ferenc Chamber Orchestra. In the spring of 2018, Mikola Román joined the ensemble as second violinist, and Eszter Lesták-Bedő became the first violinist of the string quartet. Its current members are Eszter Lesták Bedő, Gábor Sipos, István Rajncsák, and Mahdi Kousay H. This lineup has proven to be very successful, and since then the ensemble has become a significant factor in the Hungarian concert scene. In addition to their individual activities, the members perform monthly with new programs in concert halls in Budapest and other cities throughout the country. Their repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary literature, and in addition to well-known pieces, they enjoy researching and performing lesser-known but significant works.

The string quartet's success over the past 20 years speaks for itself. They toured Denmark in 2016 and 2018. Their performances have been preserved in numerous radio recordings and several CDs. The first disc features works by Haydn, Dvorak, and Shostakovich, while the second disc, released by Hungaroton, features Reinhold Glier's string quartets. They also enjoy playing in an expanded lineup, adding color to their chamber music repertoire. They have performed with such renowned artists as Gabriella Pivon, Erika Sebők, Klára Bábel, Gábor Csalog, Jenő Jandó, Balázs Fülei, Ferenc Rados, Péter Nagy, György Konrád, Sverre Larsen, Tibor Bényi, Ottó Kertész, Zsolt Kiss and Miklós Perényi.
