András Dés started his musical studies at the age of seven with classical percussion lessons. Later, during high school years, he became interested in different instruments used in folk music. He began playing congas and bongos and following performances with a school band specialized on Sephard Jewish music, he became familiar with the instruments of the Middle East. Today he considers the frame drums (riq, bodhran) the "kanna" (special Hungarian gipsy instrument) and the darbouka as his main instruments. His basic musical direction is "close-to-jazz" improvisational music (as one can with the Elemér Balázs Group, Kaltenecker trió, Off Course) but he also participates actively in experimental groups mixing folk-music with modern electronic genres such as "Mitsoura" named after the singer Mónika Miczura. In 2001 Péter Eötvös invited Dés to cooperate in the recording of his piece entitled "Music For New York", which meant a great honour to him.
His most important concerts include:
- Makám & Irén Lovász: Academy of Music, Bucharest
- Bosambo & Oleg Kiryev: Moscow and Ufa Jazz Festivals, Russia, Bashkiria
- Zsolt Kaltenecker: Policka Jazz Festival, Czech Republic
